From the moment of our conception, he/she is the best of the bunch and typifies extraordinary survival skills and knowledge. SuperSperm’s superpowers are constantly evolving AND manifold; ranging from extreme motility to uncanny perception and foresight. addressing many of the world’s dilemmas (which are literally, all of our babies!), SuperSperm may well become the next Mother Teresa or Barack Obama, by which time his/her powers will be transferred and a new SuperSperm born!

Take a brilliant client, in this case Lombard Insurance Group, find one of their greatest accomplishments (Lombard underwrote Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium for a, still, undisclosed sum), find an amazing shot of this spectacular project while under construction, add a compelling headline, some succinct copy and you should have a pretty powerful ad, right? Wrong. Since the stadium is going to be one of our semi-final venues, come 2010, it’s off-limits to all except FIFA partners and sponsors. Regardless of who actually sweated, toiled and negotiated to make this project get off the ground and rise above sea level, if you’re not the airline, the car manufacturer, the fast food chain or imported beer, don’t even go there, you will get fouled! One has to hand it to the football governing body though, when it comes to protecting themselves and their affiliate brands, FIFA rank right up there with Petr Cech*. And very few players ever mess with him!

*Petr Cech, is from Czechoslovakia and currently plays for Chelsea. In a recent poll he was voted “Best Goalkeeper in the World.”

We are proud to be involved with Reckitt Benckiser’s “Dettol Shona Khona”, (meaning “Go for it!”) initiative, started in 2005 with the main aim of nurturing young South African soccer talent beyond passion and beyond the dusty township school field, into real life skills for the game and the chance to become a professional soccer player who has been trained by the very best. To date, 24 lucky kids have been able to represent their schools and Shona Khona at the Sao Paulo Futebol de Base in Brazil through this very initiative, and many more have been sent to national training clinics to further improve their game.

And with the soccer craze just about reaching pitch fever now, on the eve of 2010… one can imagine the sheer excitement and honour it has been for us to put Dettol Shona Khona 2009 together from a branding, promotional and advertising point of view.

Copy

Serious lack of originality, which just ain’t cool. In advertising though, it’s the use of a simple word as bait for a big idea. One of these is dodgy, the other, is what we do.

Design

Having designs on someone. i.e. “I got my eye on you” (totally subjective to the beholder). Design also refers to the peeps that have an eye for good, communicative visuals. Those are the guys we trust.

Tite Brief

Ubercool undergarments. Also refers to the stuff that makes really good ads. No relation between the two.

Sherpa Proof

Not proof that you had a Sherpa when you tackled Kilimanjaro. But to get your ad to the top, this is one guide you’re gonna be glad you had on your team.

Street Smart

The smart way to connect with the man on the street. You gotta have it. Other-wise you just ain’t street.

Streetology

The school of thought that is evident in your work when you are street smart. That’s the x factor in your ad.

Urban Experience

It’s all around you. Get with it or get left behind.

Skillz

Someone who’s prolific in the field of communication / everyday life, got skills. Very necessary in advertising. Rapper, Mase (Bad Boy Entertainment, 1999) once put it like this:

“See the difference with me When I do what I do I do what I’m doing But I’m doing it like I’m doing it for TV”

In response to the above, one can say:

Did you hear him do that without stopping for breath? Whoooa, skillz!
He got me remembering lyrics ten years later. Now that’s mad skillz, yoh.
NB! It’s not advisable to still be pumping Mase now… but props to him for leaving an impression.

Entourage

Refers to anyone who’s rollin’ with you (no relation to “groupie”). Your entourage is the people that belong in your circle. e.g. Timesquare’s entourage is made up of its clients and employees.
